JOSEPH HOLMES | ARTIST BIO

Joseph O. Holmes was born in 1954 and raised in a tiny factory town in rural Pennsylvania where his father taught him how to develop photos in the home darkroom. His photographs have hung in dozens of solo and group shows around the world are are currently on display in Shanghai and Eastern Europe. His "amnh" series appears in the collection "Photography Now: 100 Portfolios." 

Among other awards, Joe has been honored with a Curator's Commendation at the Houston Center for Photography (2010), first prize in MPLS Photo Center's 2010 Portraits Exhibition, Honorable Mention in the Silver Eye Gallery's Fellowship Competition (2008), Honorable Mention in the PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris Competition (2007), and Honorable Mention in the Photographic Center Northwest's 12th Annual Competition (2007). He was a Top 50 (2010) and Finalist (2007, 2012) in Critical Mass/Photolucida and twice invited to the Review Santa Fe juried portfolio review (2007, 2010). 

Joe's images appear on book covers by Saul Bellow, Ha Jin and Andrew Vachss, and have been featured in print publications including Photo District News, Real Simple, American Photo, Voyeur (Australia), Digital Photo (Russia), Resource, and Photography Monthly (UK).
